Polar fleece, commonly referred to as fleece, is a soft synthetic fabric with a fuzzy surface, made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET). First invented by Malden Mills in 1979, polar fleece quickly became a popular material in the market due to its excellent properties. Compared to wool, fleece is lighter and easier to clean, making it an ideal choice for a variety of clothing and home goods.
BEGOODTEX Polar Fleece
BEGOODTEX’s polar fleece is made from permanently flame-retardant polyester yarn, ensuring superior safety with its flame-retardant properties. This fabric not only retains the comfort characteristics of fleece but also enhances safety, making it suitable for various applications.
Wide Range of Applications
Thanks to its unique properties, polar fleece is widely used in various products, including but not limited to:
- Clothing: Jackets, hats, sweaters, sweatpants, hoodies, etc.
- Home Goods: Blankets, bedding, cushions, pillows, etc.
- Outdoor Gear: High-performance outdoor clothing, coats, windbreakers, gloves, scarves, hats, etc.
Additionally, some of the raw materials used in the production of fleece come from recycled plastic bottles, reflecting an environmentally friendly approach that makes it both comfortable and sustainable.
Performance Features
- Comfort: Polar fleece is soft to the touch, lightweight, and warm, providing an excellent wearing experience.
- Exceptional Insulation: Its high water repellency means it retains only 1% of its weight in moisture when wet, maintaining good insulation even in damp conditions.
- Breathability: Polar fleece has strong breathability, making it suitable for intense physical activities, effectively wicking away sweat and keeping you dry.
- Easy to Clean: Polar fleece is machine washable and quick-drying, making it a convenient alternative to wool.
Considerations
Despite its many advantages, polar fleece does have some drawbacks:
- Flammability: Non-treated fleece is relatively flammable; therefore, care should be taken to avoid fire hazards during use.
- Static Electricity: Polar fleece can generate static electricity, which may attract dust and dirt; however, some newer fleece varieties come with anti-static properties.
- Water Pollution: When washed, polar fleece releases microplastics, as PET is difficult to decompose naturally. Proper wastewater treatment is necessary to prevent pollution of waterways.
Washing and Care
Polar fleece can be washed in a washing machine but should not be tumble-dried or ironed to maintain its quality and performance. Proper cleaning methods can effectively extend the lifespan of polar fleece products.
