What Is IFR + Anti-static Fabric?
IFR + Anti-static Fabric combines flame resistance with the ability to dissipate accumulated electrostatic charge.
BEGOODTEX uses conductive-fiber structures to improve electrical conductivity and reduce static buildup. Depending on the product, the conductive component may be integrated as fine conductive fibers or visible conductive yarns within the fabric construction.
How Does Anti-static Fabric Work?
Conventional textile fibers can accumulate electrical charge through friction and contact.
Anti-static fabrics introduce conductive pathways that allow this charge to dissipate more efficiently. BEGOODTEX's current Anti-static range includes conductive-fiber constructions designed to retain anti-static performance after repeated industrial laundering.
Why Combine Flame Retardancy with Anti-static Performance?
In some workplaces, flame exposure and electrostatic discharge are separate hazards that may exist at the same time.
This makes IFR + Anti-static fabrics relevant for protective clothing in petrochemical processing, electronics manufacturing, power-related environments, aerospace, automotive manufacturing, and other industrial applications where both fire hazards and static accumulation need to be considered.
Does Anti-static Mean Arc-Flash or Electrical Protection?
No. These functions should not be treated as equivalent.
Anti-static performance is intended to control or dissipate electrostatic charge.
Arc-flash, electrical insulation, flame resistance, and heat protection involve different hazards and require their own fabric or garment testing.
A fabric described as anti-static should therefore not automatically be assumed to provide arc-flash or electrical insulation protection.
What Flame Retardant Standards Can IFR + Anti-static Fabric Meet?
The applicable standards depend on the final protective application.
For example, BEGOODTEX BG-KJD, a 273 g/m², 150 cm 100% FR Polyester anti-static fabric, currently lists EN ISO 11611, EN ISO 11612, EN ISO 14116, and NFPA 2112.
Selected Modacrylic/Cotton/Nylon anti-static constructions also list these flame and heat protection standards.
These standards address flame, heat, welding, or industrial protective clothing requirements; anti-static performance should be confirmed separately according to the project requirement and corresponding test report.
