What Is IFR + Fade-Resistant Fabric?

IFR + Fade-Resistant Fabric combines flame retardant performance with improved colorfastness, helping the textile maintain its original color during long-term use.

BEGOODTEX currently applies Fade-Resistant functionality across curtains, upholstery, chenille, bedding, sheer fabrics, and other contract textiles. The current category page describes selected fabrics as reaching Grade 5 color fastness.

What Is Light Fastness?

Light fastness measures how resistant a textile color is to fading when exposed to light.

ISO 105-B02:2014 uses a xenon-arc light source representative of natural daylight to evaluate the effect of light on textile color. The standard remains current after confirmation in 2025.

For the U.S. market, AATCC TM16.3 is another recognized method for evaluating colorfastness to light using xenon-arc exposure.

Where Is IFR + Fade-Resistant Fabric Most Useful?

Fade resistance is particularly valuable for hotel curtains, guestrooms, public-area curtains, sofas, chairs, transport interiors, bedding, and other textiles expected to maintain a consistent appearance over long service periods.

What Standards Should IFR + Fade-Resistant Fabric Meet?

Colorfastness and flame retardancy should be tested separately.

For fade resistance, relevant test methods may include:

  • ISO 105-B02 — colorfastness to artificial light
  • AATCC TM16.1 — colorfastness to outdoor light
  • AATCC TM16.3 — colorfastness to xenon-arc light

Flame-retardant standards depend on the final application. For example, BG-88 curtain fabric currently supports NFPA 701, BS 5867 Type C, CA Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109-14, DIN 4102-B1, EN 13501 B-s1,d0, EN 13773 Class 1, NF P92-503 M1, GOST R 50810-95, and JIS L 1091.
