What Is IFR + Heat Resistant Fabric?
IFR + Heat Resistant Fabric is designed for environments where textiles may be exposed to high temperatures, radiant heat, sparks, flame, or hot industrial processes.
Unlike interior Temperature Protection fabrics, this category focuses on industrial thermal protection. BEGOODTEX's current range includes Oxidized PAN, Fiberglass, High-Silica Fiberglass, Polyimide, Aramid, and coated or aluminized composite materials.
Heat Resistant vs. Flame Retardant Fabric
These two terms describe different performance requirements.
Flame Retardant Fabric focuses primarily on ignition, flame spread, and behavior after exposure to a flame source.
Heat Resistant Fabric must also withstand elevated temperatures or thermal exposure while maintaining the performance required by the application.
A fabric passing a flame test should therefore not automatically be assumed suitable for continuous high-temperature use.
Which Material Should You Choose?
Different heat-resistant fibers serve different applications.
Oxidized PAN provides inherent fire resistance, a high LOI, non-melting behavior, and textile flexibility, making it suitable for welding PPE, fire curtains, and industrial protective products.
Fiberglass is commonly used for fire barriers, welding blankets, insulation jackets, and equipment protection. Standard fiberglass products are intended for high-temperature industrial use rather than close-to-skin apparel.
High-Silica Fiberglass is selected for more severe thermal environments. BEGOODTEX BG-L28-201 contains more than 96% SiO₂ and is specified for 1000°C continuous-use insulation applications.
Where Is IFR + Heat Resistant Fabric Used?
Typical applications include:
- Welding clothing and welding blankets
- Foundry and steel-mill protective wear
- Fire curtains and thermal barriers
- Industrial insulation jackets
- High-temperature pipe insulation
- Furnace and equipment protection
- Firefighting and emergency protective textiles
- Aerospace and technical insulation
The required material should be selected according to the temperature range, heat source, exposure duration, molten-metal risk, flexibility, weight, and whether the material contacts the wearer directly.
What Standards Can IFR + Heat Resistant Fabric Meet?
The applicable standard depends heavily on the final application.
Selected BEGOODTEX Oxidized PAN and industrial protective fabrics currently support standards such as EN ISO 11611, EN ISO 11612, EN ISO 14116, NFPA 2112, and EN 469, depending on the product.
High-Silica Fiberglass BG-L28-201 currently lists EN 13501-1 A2-s1,d0, EN 469, EN ISO 11611, EN ISO 11612, EN ISO 14116, FAR 25.853, and NFPA 2112.
Because temperature resistance, flame resistance, radiant-heat protection, and molten-metal protection are different performance requirements, buyers should confirm the specific temperature rating and application-specific test report for the exact material.
