What Is IFR + Blackout Fabric?

IFR + Blackout Fabric combines inherent flame retardancy with high light-blocking performance in one curtain fabric.

The flame retardant property comes from the FR fiber itself, while blackout performance is achieved through dense woven, multilayer, or composite structures. BEGOODTEX currently offers IFR blackout constructions ranging from high-shading dimout fabrics to full blackout products.

How Does IFR Blackout Fabric Block Light?

Different constructions achieve light blocking in different ways.

Woven Dimout Fabric uses dense multilayer weaving to block most incoming light while maintaining a softer textile hand.

Full Blackout or Composite Fabric uses a more complete light-blocking structure to achieve near-total or total darkness. BEGOODTEX currently offers 300 cm wide 100% FR polyester blackout constructions for large curtain projects.

IFR Blackout vs. Regular Blackout Fabric

The main difference is the source of the flame retardant performance.

IFR Blackout Fabric uses inherently flame retardant fibers, so its fire performance does not rely only on an added surface flame-retardant treatment.

Regular blackout fabric may provide excellent light blocking but does not automatically provide permanent flame retardancy. For commercial projects, both blackout performance and the applicable fire test should be confirmed separately.

Where Is IFR + Blackout Fabric Used?

IFR + Blackout Fabric is particularly suitable for hotel guestrooms, bedrooms, theaters, meeting rooms, healthcare interiors, dormitories, and contract curtain projects where both light control and fire safety are required.

Selected BEGOODTEX blackout fabrics can also combine additional functions such as UV protection, fade resistance, temperature protection, and sound reduction.

What Flame Retardant Standards Can IFR + Blackout Fabric Meet?

Selected BEGOODTEX IFR blackout fabrics support standards including NFPA 701, BS 5867 Type C, CA Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109-14, DIN 4102-B1, EN 13501 B-s1,d0, EN 13773 Class 1, NF P92-503 M1, GOST R 50810-95, and JIS L 1091.

Not every blackout construction carries every standard. The applicable test report should be confirmed for the exact fabric and final curtain project before ordering.
