What Is IFR + GRS Fabric?

IFR + GRS Fabric combines inherent flame retardancy with recycled-material sourcing verified through the Global Recycled Standard.

BEGOODTEX's GRSFRTex® range includes inherent flame retardant fabrics for curtains, apparel, home textiles, and other commercial applications where buyers want both fire performance and recycled-content documentation.

What Does GRS Actually Certify?

GRS stands for Global Recycled Standard.

It verifies recycled raw materials and tracks certified materials through the supply chain. GRS also includes requirements related to social practices, environmental management, and chemical use during processing.

GRS should therefore be understood as a recycled-content and chain-of-custody standard, not as a flame-retardant performance standard.

How Much Recycled Content Is Required for GRS?

According to Textile Exchange, GRS can be used as a B2B certification tool for products containing at least 20% recycled content. A minimum of 50% recycled content is required for eligible consumer-facing GRS product claims.

BEGOODTEX's current IFR + GRS range is positioned around fabrics containing 50% or more recycled material. The exact recycled percentage should still be confirmed for the selected SKU and supporting certification documents.

Where Is IFR + GRS Fabric Used?

Typical applications include curtains and blinds, hotel textiles, bedding, apparel, upholstery, voile, home textiles, and other commercial textile projects requiring both flame resistance and recycled-material sourcing.

For example, BEGOODTEX BG-83 is a 300 cm wide GRSFRTex® flame retardant curtain fabric, while other current products combine GRS-related sourcing with blackout, AntiUV, or other functional requirements.

What Standards Should Buyers Check?

GRS and flame-retardant standards should always be checked separately.

Depending on the selected BEGOODTEX product, flame-retardant testing may include NFPA 701, BS 5867 Type C, CA Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109-14, DIN 4102-B1, EN 13501-1, EN 13773 Class 1, NF P92-503 M1, GOST R 50810-95, and JIS L 1091.

For recycled-content sourcing, buyers should also confirm the applicable GRS scope certificate and transaction documentation for the selected material and supply chain. GRS uses third-party certification and chain-of-custody controls to track certified recycled materials.
