What Is IFR + Soundproof Fabric?
IFR + Soundproof Fabric combines flame retardant performance with acoustic functionality to help absorb, damp, or reduce unwanted sound in interior spaces.
BEGOODTEX's current range includes blackout and dimout curtain fabrics, velvet, chenille, composite fabrics, and dedicated acoustic textiles. The IFR + Soundproof category currently covers products for curtains, furniture upholstery, acoustic panels, theaters, studios, hotels, and commercial interiors.
Soundproof vs. Sound-Absorbing Fabric
These terms should not be treated as exactly the same.
Sound-absorbing fabric helps reduce reflected sound and reverberation inside a room.
Soundproofing generally refers to reducing sound transmission between spaces and usually depends on the complete wall, window, curtain, or building assembly rather than fabric alone.
For acoustic textiles, measurable sound-absorption performance is therefore more useful than simply describing a product as “soundproof.” ISO 354 and ASTM C423 provide methods for measuring sound absorption in reverberation rooms.
How Does Acoustic Curtain Fabric Reduce Noise?
BEGOODTEX's IFR + Soundproof range includes dense woven, blackout, velvet, chenille, and multilayer constructions intended to provide additional acoustic performance while maintaining flame resistance.
The current function page describes selected constructions as providing approximately 30–40% noise reduction, but acoustic results depend on the exact fabric and test configuration. For B2B projects, buyers should therefore request the corresponding acoustic test method and measured result rather than comparing fabrics only by a percentage claim.
Does Heavier Fabric Always Provide Better Soundproofing?
Not necessarily.
Fabric weight alone cannot determine acoustic performance. The finished construction and installation configuration also matter, so two fabrics with similar weight may produce different acoustic results.
For example, BEGOODTEX currently offers wide-width IFR curtain fabrics around 260–410 g/m² with Soundproof functionality, as well as heavier velvet and composite constructions. The appropriate fabric should be selected according to the required curtain or acoustic system rather than weight alone.
What Standards Should IFR + Soundproof Fabric Meet?
Acoustic performance and flame retardancy should be tested separately.
For acoustic performance, recognized methods include:
- ISO 354 — measurement of sound absorption in a reverberation room
- ASTM C423 — sound absorption and sound absorption coefficients by the reverberation room method
BEGOODTEX's current 350 g/m² Acoustic Fabric also provides test information supporting GB/T 20286-2006 B1 flame-retardant requirements for decorative fabric.
Selected IFR sound-reducing curtain fabrics support standards including NFPA 701, BS 5867 Type C, CA Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109-14, DIN 4102-B1, EN 13501 B-s1,d0, EN 13773 Class 1, NF P92-503 M1, GOST R 50810-95, and JIS L 1091, depending on the SKU.
The exact
acoustic report and flame-retardant report should therefore be confirmed independently for the selected fabric and final installation.
