What Is IFR + Waterproof Fabric?

IFR + Waterproof Fabric combines inherent flame retardancy with water protection in one textile. The flame retardant property comes from the FR fiber, while water resistance is typically added through a functional finish, coating, or surface treatment.

BEGOODTEX's current range includes coated polyester, Oxford, canvas, jacquard, shower curtain, camouflage, and protective workwear fabrics with different levels of water-repellent or waterproof performance.

Water-Repellent vs. Waterproof Fabric

These terms should not be treated as exactly the same.

Water-repellent fabric is designed to resist surface wetting and help water bead and roll off the textile.

Waterproof fabric requires a stronger barrier against water penetration, usually through coating, lamination, or another protective construction.

For B2B sourcing, buyers should confirm the actual test method and required performance instead of relying only on the word “waterproof.” Selected BEGOODTEX products use ISO 4920 to evaluate water-repellency performance.

What Is “Three-Proof” Fabric?

BEGOODTEX uses the term “three-proof” fabric for multifunctional textiles designed to provide water, oil, and stain resistance in addition to flame retardant performance.

This type of construction is useful for applications where fabrics are frequently exposed to moisture, dirt, or oil, such as protective workwear, outdoor gear, medical textiles, kitchens, bathrooms, and industrial environments.

Where Is IFR + Waterproof Fabric Used?

Typical applications include tents and outdoor gear, shower curtains, hotel and healthcare textiles, protective workwear, bags, covers, curtains, and technical textile products.

For example, BEGOODTEX currently offers lightweight silver-coated waterproof fabrics for curtains and tents, heavier coated canvas for outdoor applications, and waterproof inherent FR shower-curtain fabrics for hospitality projects.

Coated, Oxford, Canvas or Jacquard: Which Should You Choose?

The right construction depends on the final product.

Coated and silver-coated fabrics are useful when stronger water protection, reflection, or surface functionality is required.

Oxford and Canvas are generally selected for tents, bags, outdoor gear, and more durable technical products.

Jacquard and lightweight polyester constructions are better suited to hotel, shower-curtain, and decorative applications where appearance and drape are also important.

What Standards Can IFR + Waterproof Fabric Meet?

Selected BEGOODTEX IFR + Waterproof fabrics support flame-retardant standards including NFPA 701, BS 5867 Type C, CA Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109-14, DIN 4102-B1, EN 13773 Class 1, NF P92-503 M1, GOST R 50810-95, and JIS L 1091, depending on the specific product.

Water-repellent performance may be tested separately to ISO 4920, while selected multifunctional products may also carry tests such as AATCC 30 for mildew-related performance.

Flame resistance and water performance should therefore be confirmed as separate test requirements for the exact fabric and final application.
